Midwest Rainbow News’ new logo design, drawn by an incarcerated artist at Southeast Correctional Center in Missouri.

Welcome to the Midwest Rainbow News! The Midwest Rainbow News is written (mostly) by LGBTQ+ Prisoners and edited, printed and distributed by very dedicated free world volunteers. Our "Inside" Chapter has recently entered into a partnership with Liberation Lit who has so graciously taken over printing and distribution. We maintain a P.O. Box and, as funds permit, we create an account for our prison readers through Securus/Jpay.

By maintaining both modes of communication we insure our readers can reach out to us at any time in order to request advocacy in emergency situations. We deliver timely legislative updates, news stories, educational advice and resource information relevant to the Missouri/Kansas LGBTQ+ Prison Population. We are 100% dependent on donations, grant funding or personal out of pocket funding.

Please take a look around, read some of our back issues. We do not charge prisoners for a subscription to the Midwest Rainbow News. This newsletter is sent out to over 130 incarcerated members of the LGBTQIA+ community in Missouri and Kansas prisons, and provides a lifeline to news, community, and resources.

If you’d like to sign a pen pal or loved one up for the newsletter, fill out this form!

If you’d like to donate to printing and mailing costs, donate to Liberation Lit and write “Midwest Rainbow News” in the donation comment!

I hope everyone has been surviving the snow and bitter cold! When the snow flies and the temperature drops, I find nothing more relaxing than a hot cup of cocoa, a good movie and someone to share it with. So, fix a cup of cocoa, bundle up in front of

the TV and enjoy!I have been giving a lot of thought as to the direction we have been taking with theMidwest Rainbow News. In earlier issues the goal was to give voice to everyonewhile still being informative. When there was a shift in policy, we faced a censorshipissue and were banned from some camps. Changes were made and somewhere alongthe line I stopped being effective in passing along information many may not haveaccess to.So, each month I will try to have some informative content that will be of use tosomeone. This month we are reprinting an article about Gender Dysphoria and nextmonth I will include an open source letter from Dr. Maddie Deutsch. Her lettercontains information on Estrogen Hormone Therapy.

At the start of every new year, I sit back and reflect on last year and all the good, badand everything in between.

We made a lot of progress last year with the aid of a group of outstanding attorneys.Long ago, I lost track on how many name changes they represented and numerouslitigations on behalf of our community. THANK YOU ALL!

Recently I had quite a health scare. For many years I was infected with HEP-C. Afterundergoing treatment I was cured of Hep-C, but the damage to my liver wassignificant. A few months ago I was given an ultrasound of my liver and they found agrowth. I was sent for a CAT scan which verified an abnormal growth on my liver.Medical here was great, explained the next steps and my options should the growthturn out to be cancer. In the end, it was determined the growth to be noncancerous. How great a Holiday gift was that! Seems Mama will be around a while longer afterall!

Very soon we can all check off another year, the Holidays are here again. Too soon for some, but for others this past year seemed to drag on forever. Too fast, or forever, December 31stmarks the end of one year, and at midnight the beginning of the next.

The holiday season is a time for letting go of petty differences, old grudges and hurtfulfeelings. It doesn't matter your religion, if any, and it doesn't matter your color or affiliations.
